1.1 Getting Started

How to work through the tutorial

We suggest you start at the beginning and work through the modules, doing the practice activities we've included. However, you can also go to the Main Course Outline and just review the modules that you think will help you the most. It’s up to you!

Before going any further, take some time to review the Tutorial Outline in Module 2 so you'll have an idea of what you'll be covering in the next few units.

We've also included activities to help you develop your online work search skills and knowledge. You'll find these practice activities in the More . . . column on the right. Look for the "Try this" label to click on to reach the activity.

The right column also contains quotations and resources about labour market information, career planning and the world of work. We hope you find them useful!

The focus is on British Columbia

This tutorial is designed to help you find work in this province so the majority of websites we feature are based in British Columbia. We've also included some resources produced in other parts of Canada and a few resources from the United States. We've identified the origin of each resource.

Important: The tutorial uses two browser windows

You'll see lots of World Wide Web resources "hot linked" into the tutorial. When you click on a WWW link, a new browser window will open which you can click on from the menu bar at the bottom of your screen.

Once you've reviewed the material on the World Wide Web, you can click on the other browser icon in the menu bar to get back to the tutorial.
